Daniel Mullings Signs New Contract In FIBA Europe Cup And Finland
TORONTO, August 14, 2018 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Daniel Mullings has signed a one-year contract to return to Joensuun Kataja Basket in FIBA Europe Cup and the Finnish Korisliiga for the 2018-2019 season.
Mullings, a 6’2 guard, is returning to Kataja after taking the 2017-2018 season off to rehab a knee injury. During the 2016-2017 season with Kataja, Mullings averaged 13.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and ranked second in the league in steals, averaging 2.2 per game. In 16 games in the Basketball Champions League that year, he averaged 15.5 points, good for fifth best in the league, along with 7.3 rebounds and a league-leading 3.3 steals per game. His performance earned him All-Basketball Champions League Honorable Mention, All-Finnish Korisliiga Second Team, and Finnish Korisliiga All-Imports Team, while leading Kataja to a Finnish Korisliiga championship.
A Toronto, Ontario native, Mullings attended high school at Sir Wilfred Laurier Collegiate Institute before joining New Mexico State University in the NCAA to begin his collegiate career in 2011. Mullings was a four-year starter at New Mexico State, and was named Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Year as a junior. That year, he averaged 16.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Mullings was also named to the All-WAC First Team twice and to the WAC All-Defensive Team three times. In 2013, Mullings was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I All-District 6 2ndTeam, while the next year he was named to the NABC Division I All-District 6 1st Team. Mullings was the first player in New Mexico State Basketball history to make the NCAA Tournament in all four years of his career. He currently holds records as New Mexico State University’s all-time leader in career steals with 249 and career free throws made with 463, while ranking fourth all-time with 1677 career points.
Mullings began his professional career with Medi Bayreuth in the German Bundesliga (BBL) in 2015. In his rookie season he averaged 5.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 29 appearances. Mullings then signed with JiangHuai Lightning in China’s National Basketball League (NBL). In 10 games there, he ranked 7th in the NBL in scoring with 33.0 points per game, and led the league in steals with 4.6 steals per game. He also contributed 10.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, while shooting 60.2% on two-point field goals.
Mullings has significant experience representing Canada in international competition. He was selected to the Canadian Senior Men’s National Team for the 2015 Pan-American Games, where he averaged 4.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in 5 appearances. Mullings was also a member of Team Canada for the World University Games in 2013, where he helped Canada reach the semi-finals and was named to the All-World University Games First Team.
Fully healthy and eager to return to the court, Mullings anticipates a strong season with Kataja.

Kataja finished sixth in the Korisliiga standings in 2017-2018, and hopes Mullings’ return will help them take a step forward in Finland and FIBA Europe Cup.
