Peyton Whitted Signs First Professional Contract In Greece

TORONTO, August 20, 2017 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Peyton Whitted has signed her first professional contract with AS Niki Lefkadas in the Greek A1 League.

Whitted, a 6’3’’ forward, is coming off of a four year career at Penn State University. In her senior season, Whitted was selected as a team captain and went on to average 5.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game. She helped Penn State to a 19-9 overall record, a sixth place regular season finish in the Big 10 Conference (Big 10), and the Sweet 16 of the National Invitational Tournament. An excellent student, Whitted was also named to the Big 10 All-Academic Team for the third consecutive season.

A Nashville, Tennessee native, Whitted graduated from North Gwinnett High School in Georgia, before starting her collegiate career at Penn State in 2013. In her freshman season, she helped Penn State to a regular season Big 10 Championship and a Sweet 16 appearance in the NCAA Tournament. As a junior in 2015-2016, Whitted had her most productive season, averaging 9.3 points on 48.6% shooting. She was also seventh in the Big 10 with 8.3 rebounds per game while adding an average of 1.2 steals.

Whitted, thankful for the opportunity to play overseas, believes her best basketball is ahead.

“I am very humble and thankful for the opportunity I have been given to play professional basketball in Greece this season for Niki Lefkadas,” said Whitted. “I would like to thank, first and foremost, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because this wouldn’t be possible without Him. I would also like to thank my family, my coaches, my trainers, and my agents for their support. Lastly, I want to thank Coach Nikos Douvitsas for giving me this amazing opportunity with his club. I look forward to what is in store in Greece this season.”

Niki Lefkadas finished last season in fifth place with a 13-9 record, narrowly missing the playoffs. The club believes they have built a strong roster and see a big future for their new forward.

“We are very happy to have such a good player on our team,” said Niki Lefkadas head coach, Nikos Douvitsas. “Peyton is a great athlete, and can play three positions on the court. I think she is also a two way player who will help us on both ends of the floor. I am sure that she will impress the whole basketball community and that she will soon be known all over Europe.”
