Matteke Hutzler Signs One-Year Contract in Germany

TORONTO, August 22, 2012 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce the signing of Matteke Hutzler to a one-year contract with TG 1889 Sandhausen in Germany for the 2012-2013 season.

Hutzler, a 6’2’’ forward from Napanee, Ontario is entering her second professional season in Europe.

Last season, Hutzler played for Academico FC in Portugal, leading her team to the playoffs, averaging 13.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game during the regular season and playoffs combined.

Prior to beginning her professional basketball career, Hutzler spent four years at Simon Fraser University beginning in 2006, helping the school win three Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) National Championships.  In her final year, Hutzler transferred to the University of Western Ontario where she averaged 13.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, earning a CIS 2nd Team All-Canadian award.

“After an exciting rookie season in Portugal, I am focused and ready to compete in Germany,” said Hutzler.  “I’m really looking forward to being a part of TG Sandhausen and getting the upcoming season underway.”

TG 1889 Sandhausen finished last season in seventh place.  This year they will be looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
