Matt Tiby Signs New Contract In Belgian Euromillions League

Toronto, June 28, 2017 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Matt Tiby has signed a new one-year contract with Belfius Mons-Hainaut of the Euromillions League in Belgium.

Tiby, a 6’8” power forward, is coming off of his first professional season with Atomeromu SE Paks in the Hungary A Division. In 32 appearances, Tiby averaged 15.6 points while leading the league in rebounding at 8.8 per game. He also averaged 1.0 assist and 1.2 steals per game, while shooting 55.7% from two-point range.

An Urbandale, Iowa native, Tiby attended Urbandale High School prior to starting his collegiate career at Kirkwood Community College. As the only freshman starter for the Eagles, Tiby averaged 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, while claiming an honourable mention for all-region recognition.

In his sophomore season, Tiby committed to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee of the Horizon League. He made his presence felt immediately, averaging 12.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest. In his junior year, Tiby ranked 13th in the Horizon League in scoring with 13.3 points per game and 3rd in rebounds with 7.8 per game. That season he was named to the All-Horizon League Second Team. In his senior year, Tiby averaged career-highs of 15.6 points and 8.2 rebounds, ranking seventh and fourth in the Horizon League, respectively. Tiby’s season total of 272 rebounds set a new school record, breaking his own previous mark. He was elected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 12 Team, and was placed on the mid-season watch list for the Lou Henson Award given annually to the nation’s top mid-major player. Tiby’s career rebounding average of 7.5 per game is tops in University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee history and he is 11th all time in the Horizon League with 1,332 career points.

“I am excited to see what the team and I can accomplish this year,” said Tiby. “Humbled to get another chance to showcase myself for an accomplished organization like Mons-Hainaut.”

Mons-Hainaut had a .500 record in Euromillions League play last season, finishing with 18 wins and 18 losses. They also competed in international competition, FIBA Europe Cup, where they finished in 3rd place in Group C.

“Matt has the ability to run the floor and be aggressive on the boards at both ends. His ability to be a stretch four, shoot it, or use his power to go to the post on a switch is what we are looking for,” said Mons-Hainaut Head Coach, Daniel Goethals. “After a successful first season in Europe, we want to help him improve even more, and take his game to another level.”
