Marques Oliver Signs First Professional Contract In Germany

TORONTO, July 17, 2013 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce the signing of Marques Oliver to a one-year contract with the Cuxhaven BasCats of the German Pro A league.

Oliver, a 6’7’’ power forward, is starting his professional career after four seasons at Delaware State University. This past season, he was one of only three players in NCAA Division I basketball to average at least 1.8 steals and 1.8 blocks per game.  He eclipsed the 1000-point mark for his career, finishing with 1094 total points.

Oliver tied the Delaware State University record of 8 blocks in a game three times over the course of his career.  Over his final three seasons, he averaged 10.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game.  He was also named to the All-Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference Second Team in 2012.

Oliver is originally from Raleigh, North Carolina, and graduated from Panther Creek High School where he led his team to back-to-back Tri-Eight Conference championships.  As a senior, he was named to the All-Tri-Eight Conference First Team as well as the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association All-District 5 Second Team.

“I am very excited to be heading to Germany to start my professional career,” said Oliver.  “I think I will be in an excellent situation with the Cuxhaven BasCats, and I am ready to do whatever I can to help the team win a championship.”

Marques will be joining a Cuxhaven club that finished in fifth place last season with a 17-13 record.

“We are very excited to be bringing in a player of Marques’ caliber,” said Krists Plendiskis, Cuxhaven Head Coach. “The power forward position is very important in my system and we believe he can be a difference maker on both ends of the court.”
