Kalisha Keane Signs With The Melbourne Boomers In Australia

Kalisha KeaneTORONTO, November 30, 2016 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Kalisha Keane has signed with the Melbourne Boomers in the Australian Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL).

Keane, a 6’1’’ forward, is coming off an all-star season in Turkey with TED Ankara Kolejliler. There she averaged 16.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per contest. Keane was named to the 2016 Eurobasket.com All-Turkish TKBL Team as an Honorable Mention.

An Ajax, Ontario native, Keane graduated from Westdale High School before heading to Michigan State for her collegiate career. She was a major contributor right away for the Spartans, averaging 12.4 points and 5.9 rebounds as a freshman, while earning Big 10 Conference All-Freshmen Team and All-Big Ten Conference Honorable Mention awards in the process. Keane went on to help Michigan State to three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by a Sweet 16 birth in 2009. She had her best individual season as a senior in 2010-2011, averaging 16.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. Keane was the Big 10 Player of the Year and a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-American Honorable Mention that season.

Keane started her professional career in 2011 with Euroleague and Croation club, Gospic Croatia Osiguranje. She averaged 8.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in Euroleague competition that season. Since then, she played two full seasons in Israel before moving to Turkey.

Keane is ready for the new challenge in Australia and hopes to step in and be an impact player down the stretch for the Boomers.

“I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to come and work hard for the Melbourne Boomers and to be a part of the WNBL,” said Keane. “I have heard nothing but amazing things about the city of Melbourne, The WNBL and the country of Australia. I look forward to getting the opportunity to learn, see new things, and experience the culture. Basketball is such an amazing sport and can allow you to travel to some awesome places. Australia has always been on my bucket list.”

Melbourne currently sits seventh in the WNBL with a 3-7 record.
