Josh Wolfram Signs New Contract In The Czech Republic

TORONTO, June 30, 2017 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Josh Wolfram has signed with Sluneta Usti Nad Labem (USTI) in the Czech Republic National Basketball League (NBL).

Wolfram, a 6’10” power forward is coming off of his first professional season with Umea Basket in the Swedish Basketligan. In 27 appearances, Wolfram averaged 9.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists, while finishing third in the Basketligan with 1.5 blocks per game.

A Kamloops, British Columbia native, Wolfram attended South Kamloops Secondary School prior to committing to start his collegiate basketball at the University of Calgary in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS). After his second season, he returned to British Columbia to play for Thompson Rivers University for the 2014-15 season. That season, Wolfram averaged 12.8 points and finished sixth in the CIS with 9.3 rebounds per game. He also shot 42.7% from three-point range that year, ranking 11th in the country. In his fifth year, Wolfram led Thomson Rivers to a Canada West Conference (CanWest) silver medal and a berth in the 2016 CIS Men’s Final 8 Tournament. That season, he averaged 19.0 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, ranking third and fifth respectively in the CanWest and 11th and ninth in the country. At season’s end, Wolfram was selected to his second consecutive All-CanWest First Team.

Wolfram also represented Canada at the 2015 World University Games in South Korea. Through 8 games there, he averaged 3.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 13.1 minutes of court time. Canada finished the tournament in seventh place.

Wolfram hopes to build on his rookie season and take his game to a new level in the Czech Republic.

“I am extremely excited to be able to sign my second professional contract with Usti nad labem,” said Wolfram. “I cannot wait to get to the Czech Republic in September and do everything I can to help the club be successful.”

In their most recent season, USTI finished with a 14-18 record, finishing eighth in the NBL.

“Signing Josh means that we have an athletic big man, who can work hard under the basket but also has a good shooting touch from the outside,” said USTI General Manager, Tomas Hruby. “He also plays at a high-level on the defensive end of the court, which will benefit us greatly.”
