Doug Herring Jr. Signs New Contract In Uruguay

doug-herring-jrTORONTO, December 2, 2016 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Doug Herring Jr. has signed with Defensor Sporting Club Montevideo in the Liga Uruguaya de Basketball (LUB).

Herring Jr., a 6’3’’ point guard, is coming off an all-star season with the Saint John Mill Rats in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). He averaged 16.1 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds over 43 appearances, while leading the Mill Rats to the NBLC Semi Finals. Herring Jr. was named to the All-NBLC Second Team.

A Poughkeepsie, New York native, Herring Jr. attended Poughkeepsie High School before playing his collegiate basketball at Utica College. There he was a four-year starter and became one of the top players in the Empire 8 Athletic Conference in junior and senior seasons. In 2008, he received national attention as a finalist for the Bob Cousey Award, which is given to the top point guard across all NCAA divisions. That season he averaged 18.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. In 2009, Herring Jr. was selected as an All-Empire 8 Athletics Conference First Team member.

Upon graduation, Herring Jr. played three seasons in the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League before joining the Mill Rats in Saint John. He was an NBLC All-Star that season as well, averaging 17.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per contest. He then moved to the United Kingdom for a season with the Bristol Academy Flyers in 2014-2015 before returning to Saint John the following year.

Defensor Sporting Club currently sits in 4th place in the LUB with a 7-5 record. Herring has already arrived in Uruguay and is eager to start contributing with his new club.
