Austin Arians Signs First Professional Contract In Fiba Europe Cup & Ukraine

TORONTO, August 16, 2017 – Slan Sports Management is pleased to announce that Austin Arians has signed his first professional contract with BC Khimik Yuzhny of Ukraine’s Superleague. Khimik will also play for a chance to qualify for the 2017-2018 FIBA Europe Cup season.

Arians, a 6’6” forward, is coming off of his senior season at Wake Forest University in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of the NCAA. Starting 33 games at Wake Forest, Arians averaged 8.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists per game, and led the team with 61 three-point field goals made. He also shot 42.7% from three-point range, ranking 16th in the ACC, and 89.2% from the free-throw line.

A Stoughton, Wisconsin native, Arians attended Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart in Madison, Wisconsin. During high school, Arians was a two-time First Team All-Southern Badger and a Wisconsin State Journal All-Area honoree. In his senior year of high school, he earned Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 2 All-State and Associated Press Honorable Mention All-Divisions All-State honors.

Arians began his collegiate career in 2012 at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UWM) in the Horizon League of the NCAA. As a freshman, he averaged 6.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game, playing in 32 games. He became a starter on the team as a sophomore and increased his output, averaging 10.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. That year, Arians’ contributions helped UWM win the Horizon League Tournament, beating third-seeded Wright State University in the championship game. Arians was forced to rest during the 2014-2015 season due to injuries, but returned to UWM’s basketball squad the next season as a redshirt junior. That season, Arians averaged 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and ranked sixth in the Horizon League with 79 three-point field goals made. He was also named MVP of the Cable Car Classic hosted by Santa Clara University, averaging 15.3 points per game while leading UWM to the title. Arians graduated from UWM following his junior year, and transferred to Wake Forest University as a graduate student and redshirt senior.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to play with Khimik,” said Arians. “I’m very excited to see what we are able to accomplish in the upcoming season.”

Khimik finished the 2016-2017 Superleague regular season ranked second overall with a 22-5 record. They advanced to the finals of the Superleague playoffs, but were defeated by Budivelnyk Kyiv in four games. Khimik will begin FIBA Europe Cup play in the second round of the qualifiers, October 4, 2017, and will face the winner of the s.Oliver Würzburg (Germany) and Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyesi (Turkey) matchup in round one.

“We are happy to get a player of Austin’s quality into the Khimik organization,” said Khimik Manager, Alexander Mayorov. “We expect him to be a key contributor to our club this season.”
