Andrew Wedemire – from UWO to the UK – Part 3

So it’s been a while since my last blog entry. Things have started to pick up here, and I have been incredibly busy with basketball and community work.

On the basketball side, our team has really come together over the last few weeks.  We have had to make considerable adjustments playing paying shorthanded in a bunch of games. But as a team we really have came together with lots of people stepping up their level of play and guiding us two some big wins. We are currently sitting in second place in the league (5-2) and have a huge game today against our rival Newcastle. This will be the fourth time playing them this year, but will be the first official meeting in league play. Our team really wants this win and it will be a hard fought battle for us. I have been pretty pleased with the way our team and I have been playing so far this year. Everyone is now familiar with each other and we know what to expect from everyone each time we step on the floor.  Our most recent game was a really hard fought battle playing without our two leaders EJ Harrison and Sterling Davis. We were able to come back from a twelve-point deficit and pull out a three-point victory in the end against a very good team. This was the best feeling our team has had after a game this year.

On the other side of things, the community work has been going well. We recently put on a basketball tournament for the youth in Aberdeen in a program called, Twilight Basketball. It was a long and interesting day as you get to see the difference between basketball there and back home. It was a good feeling to be able to give something back to these kids and they all seemed to really enjoy the time they had.
